Bart Ehrman wrote this entire book to demonstrate that there are hundreds of thousands of textual variation and that the texts of the New Testament is so badly corrupted that we can't even think of getting back to the originals.
He stresses that there are more number of variation than the total number of words in the New Testament and that these variations are irreconcilable.
He said there are some 300,000 to 400,000 variants or even more who knows.
He wrote this book putting together some of the best variants out of those 400,000+ and I personally went through every single one of them and my faith is still intact infact it has strengthened my faith in the text of the New Testament.
In the appendix section to the Paperback edition, p. 252 of Bart Ehrman's book "Misquoting Jesus"
Question to Bart Ehrman:
" Why do you believe these core tenets of Christian orthodoxy to be in jeopardy based on the scribal errors you discovered in the biblical manuscripts?"
Ehrman's response:
"Essential Christian beliefs are NOT affected by textual variants in the manuscript tradition of the New Testament."
